The district is divided into four administrative subdivisions- 1) Noney (Longmai),2) Khoupum, 3) Haochong, and 4) Nungba. The entire district is classified as rural.

The total area of the Noney district is 1604.4 square kilometres, making up 7.19 per cent of the total state area. There are 73 inhabited villages in the district. TOPOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

The topography of a district plays a big factor in determining the economy and infrastructure and the related demand and supply of the different types of skilled workforce. Most of the district is characterised by rugged hilly terrain, except for a few pockets of plain areas like the Noney (Longmai) valley and Khoupum valley. The altitude of the district ranges from 41 m to 2500 m. Due to the weak and fragile nature of rocks and the high gradient of hill slopes, landslides are a common phenomenon in Noney during the monsoons.

Noney district falls under the Agro-Climatic Zone – Sub Tropical Zone (NEH-4) (NARP). The summer months are hot and humid, while the winter months are cold and dry in the district. The maximum rainfalls occur due to the southwest monsoon from May to August.

CONNECTIVITY

The district is connected to the adjoining districts only through road networks. Noney can be reached from the capital city of Imphal through the National Highway NH-37, also known as the New Cachar Road or the Imphal- Jiribam Highway; and from the main commercial town of Bishnupur through the Old Cachar Road. Construction of railway lines under the Imphal-Jiribam Railway project is undergoing. The world‟s tallest pier bridge is being constructed over the Ejei River in Noney.

DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE

The main inhabitants of the Noney district are the Rongmei Naga tribe, which falls under the umbrella of the Zeliangrong community. More than 95% of the population belongs to the Scheduled Tribes.
